Volunteers can train to:

- Guard or diesel locomotive Driver
- Help at the station, as ticketing staff and customer service crew
- Keep our railway running smoothly as part of the workshop team

This group focuses on restoring and maintaining our heritage rollingstock. The crew in recent times have restored a ZB Guard’s van and refurbished our AQ carriages. The mid-week crew’s normal weekdays are Wednesdays, and Thursdays when required. This friendly group is always looking for new members to add their knowledge and skills.
Their main area of activity is maintenance and restoration of our Locomotives. The crew maintains and restores the railways fleet of steam, diesel and petrol locomotives. From time to time they undertake other projects, including helping on trackwork. As this is an evening workshop it would suit those who work during the day. If your skill set or interest leans towards engineering and motors, you may just have found your niche.
Members of our signal department aim to restore and maintain the old ways of controlling trains. The Bennett Brook Railway has a huge collection of heritage signalling equipment. We have three signal boxes procured from various locations across the State. Bennett Brook Railway is the only railway in Western Australia using Semaphore signalling with operational signal boxes.
Our dedicated track crew work diligently to maintain this important part of our infrastructure. Using machinery and hand tools they re-sleeper and lay down track. The use of plastic sleepers in recent times has made the job a little easier. Track days are organised when required. This is a great way to stay fit and they would certainly appreciate help.
The rollingstock department restores and maintains all stock that rolls on tracks but does not contain an engine. At the railway we have a large seclection of carriages and wagons.
The locomotive department deals with our engines and other motive equipment. The biggest of these is our South African steam engine Ng15 123 which has recently returned to service.
